Biography Grand prize winner of the1995 Chopin International Piano Competition in Corpus Christi (USA), and of the 2001 Concurso International Compositores de Espana in Madrid, Italian concert pianist Calogero Di Liberto continues to win praise for his warm musicianship, technical prowess at the piano and wide range of repertoire. Mr. Di Liberto was born in 1973 in Agrigento, Italy. He graduated from the Bellini Music Conservatory in Palermo in the class of Giulio Arena, and continued his studies with Aquiles Delle Vigne and Bruno Canino. He received a Master of Music degree from the Rotterdam Music Conservatory in 1999. In 2002 he completed the Artist Diploma program at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where he studied with Tamas Ungar and Harold Martina. In 2006 Mr. Di Liberto pursued a DMA in Piano Performance with Jon Kimura Parker at The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston, where he also worked as collaborative pianist for the Voice Department. Calogero Di Liberto's career has taken him across Europe and throughout the United States. He has given recitals at Carnegie Hall, Columbia University in New York, Kennedy Center in Washington, Shepherd School of Music in Houston, Grosser Saal in Berlin, Wiener Saal in Salzburg, Solitär of the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Ferenc Liszt's Academy in Budapest, the Music Conservatory in Ciudad Real, Bocconi University in Milan, and the Teatro Politeama in Palermo. He has been guest of the TCU PianoTexas Institute in Fort Worth (USA), the Chopin Society of Texas in Corpus Christi (USA), the Woodlands Symphony Orchestra (USA), the Fundacion Juan March in Madrid, the Juventudes Musicales in Sevilla, the Kawai in Germany and Italy, the Mosel Festwochen (Germany), the Liszt Institute in Bologna, the Slovenian and Italian Television, of the Associazione Ester Mazzoleni in Palermo, the Associazione Musicale Ernico-Simbruina in Frosinone, the Festival Pianistico di Roma, and of the Festival International Echternach (Luxembourg). His compositions for solo piano, Fantasia sulla Cavalleria Rusticana di Pietro Mascagni and Pucciniana, and Fantasie su arie di Puccini, were published respectively by Casa Musicale Sonzogno (Milan) and Edizioni Unda Maris (Palermo). The American composer Karim Al-Zand composed for him Pattern Preludes, which Di Liberto premiered in Houston, in 2005. Very active in chamber music, he has collaborated with German cellist Christoph Henkel, and Russian cellist Vadim Pavlov, violinist Cristiano Rossi, bass singer Simone Alaimo, tenor Fabio Armiliato, and baritones Roberto Servile and Leo Nucci. Calogero Di Liberto is active since 1998 as teacher and pedagogue. He taught piano at the Civico Istituto "Luigi Costa" in Vigevano, and at numerous master classes for the Chopin Societies of Corpus Christi and Houston. He returned to Italy in 2006, collaborating for two years with the Accademia Internazionale di Musica Unda Maris as assistant of pianist Bruno Canino, and collaborative pianist for the violin class of Cristiano Rossi. He is presently piano professor at the Istituto Musicale "Vincenzo Bellini" in Caltanissetta. |
